BROWBONE WORN THREE WAYS

TUTORIAL + PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

The nerd in me loves breaking things down and analyzing! So today, let’s look at the browbone, narrow down the product to a light pink pencil and decide if we like it best highlighted halfway (just under the wing of the brow), the whole way (underneath the entire brow) or not at all. I’m not going to share my choice just yet but would love to hear yours!

TOOLS:

  • Your Favorite Brow Pencil — I love easy mechanical brow pencils like this one ($$$), this one ($) and this one ($).
  • Your Favorite Highlighting Pencil — I love light light pink shades like this one ($$) and this one ($).
  • For Those of You Who Like to Know It All — I used this eye shadow quad ($$$) in Golden Mink on Kori but you can also try this one ($). I also used this eyeliner ($$) and this mascara (on sale!).

TINTED LIP OIL

TUTORIAL + PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

Lip products are the majority of my makeup kit. I literally could save twenty pounds in the weight of my suitcase if I wasn’t so obsessed with lipstick. And I love the look of a gloss, but not a big fan of the goopiness of it. So lip oils have been my favorite discovery of the last year. And especially tinted ones! They are mega moisturizing but not sticky or thick. They’re actually really thin but equally as shiny. They are all I want to wear right now. I like to wear them over a lip liner because even though they’re tinted, they’re sheer. But when you’re looking for a sheer shine with a hint of color, wear them alone and you’ll love that too. Here’s how:

TOOLS:

  • A Tinted Lip Oil — I used this yummy one ($) in Misted Plum but also am obsessed with this “shaker” ($$), this trio set ($$$), this lush one ($$), this reactive one ($$) that adjusts to your own pH, and this high-shine one ($$).
  • Your Favorite Lip Liner — I used my all-time favorite lip pencil ($$$) but also love this one ($$) and this one ($).

STEPS:

What are your favorite lip oils so far? I’d love to hear because I am obsessed!

Hope everyone had a nice long weekend! Today I am sharing with you what’s in my skincare closet. All of these products below are ones that I highly recommend. I would not be sharing it with you if I haven’t had a positive experience with each and every one of them. Now, take a look for yourself!

  1. Origins Face Wash – my favorite face wash EVER — it balances dry and oily skin (which I have), and smells like peppermint. I have been using this for a couple years now and am constantly restocking!
  2. Shiseido Sunscreen – I never leave the house without applying sunscreen….ever. And this is one of my favorite sunscreens. I switch out between this or Clarins Sunscreen.
  3. Tatcha Cleansing Oil – Cleansing oil has changed my life! This one in particular does the job and gets rid of all my makeup, without having to use a makeup wipe. If you haven’t tried cleansing oil yet,  you must try this.
  4. Clinique Moisturizing Gel – I have oily skin so this the perfect moisturizer for my skin type. I have been using this one for years.

  1. Fresh Sugar Polish – First, this face scrub mask smells amazing. Second, this makes your face feeling SO smooth and rejuvenated.
  2. Huxley Anti-Gravity Cream – I discovered this face cream when I went to my local Nordstrom in LA and saw a pop-up dedicated to Korean beauty — but don’t worry, you can purchase this online too! I’ve been using this a lot lately and absolutely love it. It makes my skin feel new in the morning, AND it smells amazing.
  3. Glossier Moisturizing Mask – My roommate gifted this to me and I use it whenever my skin is dry and needs a pick-me-up. This works like MAGIC.
  4. Caudalie Detox Oil – I apply this almost every night and it revives my skin come the morning. I can’t get enough of it and I’m ready to go on to my 3rd bottle!

  1. Mario Badescu Face Spray – I’m sure everyone has seen this product before but the hype is real guys! I use this all the time.
  2. Caudalie Moisturizing Toner – This moisturizing toner has been saving my life this winter. I immediately apply this after I wash my face.
  3. Origins Renewal Serum – I apply this several times a week at night and I loveeeee. I think I just love the Origins brand in general (as you can tell in this post ha!)

  1. Origins Rose Clay Mask – This has been one of my favorite Origins face masks (see #2 below too).
  2. Origins Charcoal Clay Mask – So good for cleaning out your pores — this is another one of my favorite Origins mask.
  3. Origins Night-A-Mins Cream – Can you tell I love the Origins brand? I promise this post is NOT sponsored by Origins (ha!) but this is another fave night cream (which I had to patiently wait for on backorder because it apparently is a hot-selling item…but I understand why).
  4. Vant Instant Recovery Mask – This is a mask I picked up at the Korean Beauty pop-up in Nordstrom in LA but as I mentioned before, Nordstrom sells this online too! I used this the other day and LOVE how it made my skin feel fresh and soft.

What are some of your favorite skincare products that you use on a daily basis? I’m SO into skincare so please, please share them in the comments below!

xx Eunice

FAVORITE HIGHLIGHTING TECHNIQUE

I’ve noticed since Strobing became really popular, well, let’s just say people have gotten a little excited and might be overdoing it a little. This technique will prevent that from happening while still creating a gorgeous glow. Here’s how:

TOOLS:

  • Your Favorite Highlighting Fluid — I used this iconic one ($$$) but also love this one ($$) that doubles as an undereye brightener and this one ($) that comes with a highlighting powder.

FACE IT.

Photos and Post by Eunice

Face it, every now and then you’ll encounter days where your skin is dull, dry, and simply needs a little pick-me-up. Enter: Korean face mask sheets. Each sheet is soaked in powerful ingredients made to hydrate and elevate your skin’s health. Over the last couple of years, Korean face mask sheets have become increasingly popular, in demand, and in turn, more accessible. Nowadays, you can find face mask sheets in Sephora, Target, and even Forever 21.

Face mask sheets have become a part of my skincare routine 1-2 times a week. My mom hooked me into face mask sheets years ago. It is such an easy and simple way of hydrating and revitalizing your skin. Just wash your face thoroughly, lay in bed, and apply this face mask sheet and let it soak in for 15-20 mins. I do this before I go to bed, so by the morning my face feels fresh and hydrated.

Below are some face mask sheets I highly recommend:

  • Dr. Jart+ Water Replenishment Mask – used to hydrate the skin and improve redness and/or dryness
  • BioMiracle Vitamin C Collagen Mask – used to brighten and hydrate the skin (my mom bulk ordered a huge pack of these for me and I love, love, love this mask sheet)
  • Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Mask – used to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
  • Peach + Lily Drench + Nourish Mask – used to hyrdrate and feed your skin vitamins and antioxidants
  • Leaders Aloe Soothing Mask – used to hydrate and calm/relieve tired or stressed skin

Other places I like to buy Korean face mask sheets are at The Face Shop (a Korean beauty store*) and Peach & Lily (a Korean beauty e-commerce shop).

(P.S. The face mask sheets pictured in the opening photo are from The Face Shop)

*So, The Face Shop currently does not have a US website but they have brick + mortar stores throughout the US. Some are in New York, Maryland, Virginia, California… Do a Google search to see if one is nearby you!

Have you guys used face mask sheets before? Let me know, and have a wonderful weekend!

xx Eunice

Mascara doesn’t have to end up under your eyes, you know… it only does because we don’t wipe off the excess right before it dries! It literally takes five seconds but is so worth it. Please try it and check in the mirror in the late afternoon and see! Here’s how:

TOOLS:

  • Your Favorite Mascara — Right now I’m obsessed with this Iconic Mascara ($$$),  this Fat Brush Mascara ($$) as well as this Volume Heavy Mascara ($).

STEPS:

For those of you asking, this is the eye shadow palette I used on Kori!

FOUNDATION SHADE ADJUSTER

TUTORIAL + PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

Every Winter my clients and I all turn a shade or two lighter for obvious reasons. When I first started out I got so frustrated because I finally found the perfect shade match for each girl (logged in a notebook of course!) but had to start over again! Then I discovered white shade-adjusting drops and life was good again. Some of us don’t automatically fall into the lighter shade developed by the cosmetic company. Many companies have a yellow medium version followed by a pink medium version followed by a neutral, when all you wanted was the same one, just a hint lighter! That’s the brilliance of white drops. You can keep the cool or warm undertone while just lightening it up a little, which you can’t do as well by dropping down a shade or by mixing two shades together. Trust me, I’ve tried it all! And this will make you the happiest. Here’s how:

TOOLS:

  • White Shade Adjustment/Lightening Drops: I used these in 0 Pure White ($$$) but also love this one ($) and this water-based one ($).
  • Your Favorite Foundation: this is my favorite full coverage foundation ($$), my favorite medium coverage foundation ($$) and my favorite light coverage foundation ($$) because of each formula and because all three come in shades for every skin tone.

Now that the pendulum has started to move away from the stenciled brow (yay!), it’s time to stop trimming the front hairs and feather them upward. And the best way to do that is not with a brow gel. It’s with your favorite lip balm! It is much stronger to really hold the hairs in place and train them to go upward. Here’s how:

TOOLS:

  • Your Favorite Brow Pencil — I used this one ($$$) on Brook above but also love this one ($$) and this one ($).
  • Your Favorite Lip Balm — You’ll never find my kit without this iconic balm ($$$) but this one ($$) also is amazing and I personally use this one ($) every day.

STEPS:

For those of you who love to know everything, this is the eyeshadow Dolce Vita palette I used and this is the lippie in Bette!

GYM BAG SKIN + MAKEUP ESSENTIALS

TUTORIAL BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

Probably one of the most frequent questions I get asked year after year is about gym bag essentials and more specifically, makeup and working out. It’s one of those lovely dilemmas if you’re single because it’s a great place to meet guys and gals, so the tendency is to want to look somewhat cute! But your poor skin is going to be sweating and you don’t want to clog your pores while they’re trying to breathe. Because after awhile, your skin is going to break out, then you’ll end up piling on more cover-up and now your towel is covered in foundation and you’ve become “that girl” who you swore to yourself you wouldn’t become. We’ve all been there. Eventually we end up learning to love ourselves with minimal (or no) makeup and the natural flush that happens during a spin class or boot camp and we move on to our next dilemma: how to keep makeup and skincare essentials in our gym bags for a quick refresh in the locker room before going back to class or work. Luckily, cosmetic companies clearly have employees with the same problem because six of them have come out with these clever handy kits!

OUR FAVES:

  1. Pinch Provisions Fitness Kit: This one is the full Monty for the over-prepared Type A personality in all of us! The teeny-tiny case small enough to toss into your gym bag is packed with an assortment of 15 just-in-case essentials to ensure you have a great workout, including a hair band, ear buds, blister balm, deodorant and even extra socks.
  2. Yuni Sweat, Refresh, Go Healthy Portable Workout Essentials: I love this one because there are large body wipes for a regular workout and a flash bath no-rinse wash for insane workouts.
  3. Wander Beauty New York Minute Kit: This is for the multi-tasker who loves upscale luxury on the fly. There are three gems that are really five because two are dual-ended. And they happen to be all I need. Well, almost. I also throw my favorite foundation in it because I have some uneven skin tones that need even-ing!
  4. Tarte Gym Bag Grabs Athleisure Essentials: By now most of you know Tarte. And to know Tarte is to love Tarte because of their good-for-you formulas and trendy color ways. I love this kit because the mascara is sweatproof but there are eye wipes specifically formulated to take it off if you choose to.
  5. Clinique Pep Rally Gym Bag Heroes: This kit is great because it has wipes for when you only have a couple minutes, an exfoliating cleanser for when you have a few more minutes, a moisturizer, a mascara and everything comes in a super cute water bottle.
  6. MILK Makeup Vibes Vibes Vibes Kit: If you haven’t heard of MILK before, let me introduce you! MILK Studios in NY and LA are where some of the biggest photo shoots happen. And like Smashbox, they learned a lot about lighting and makeup and ways to blur and highlight. This kit comes with their four bestselling kits to do just that. And everything feels super sleek and modern.

HOW TO USE A FACIAL CLEANSING OIL

TUTORIAL BY AMY NADINE, GRAPHIC DESIGN BY EUNICE CHUN

Most of us were raised to wash our faces with soap, water and a lot of splashing. But I’m here to say you aren’t doing your face any favors! There’s something beautiful that happens when you make these two important changes:

  1. switch from soap to a cleansing oil and
  2. incorporate a muslin cloth to bring the water to your face instead of splashing.

A cleansing oil will melt away makeup, dirt and grime while providing essential moisture. Acne sufferers will actually see your skin calm down because instead of stripping away oil (triggering your skin to create more), your skin chills out and slows oil production because there’s no need. On the flip side, dry-skin sufferers get the added oils you desperately need, without drying out your skin from washing your face.

Then on top of that, incorporating a muslin cloth to the equation generates cell turnover by gently exfoliating on the daily. Which in turn leaves you with gorgeous, smooth skin immediately but even more so over time. And you can really get in there at the lashline to remove waterproof mascara and eyeliner. Here’s how:

TOOLS:

  • A Cleansing Oil — Obviously my Amy Nadine Camellia Cleansing Oil ($) is my favorite because I spent almost a year formulating it to find the right combination of oils and extracts (the winners being camellia oil, grapeseed oil, lemon and orange peel oils and calendula and arnica extracts). Together they really help calm, nourish and moisturize the skin in a way you’ve never felt before. (Also check your local Costco to see if they have any left with their member’s discount!) I also love this luxurious one ($$$) and this one-step dream ($$).
  • A muslin cloth — I love this set of three ($$) and this organic one ($).

STEPS:

I typically repeat steps 11 and 12 a dozen times to get every last bit of makeup. Then blot your face dry with a towel then follow with your usual skincare program (toner, moisturizer, serum or whatever you love that works for you!).
